What is Mahjong?

Mahjong is a 4-person game that originated in China 300 years ago and was brought to the United States in the 1920s by Joseph Babcock. Unfortunately, everyone played their own version with their own made-up rules. In 1937, a group of women in New York sought to standardize the game and founded the National Mah Jongg League (or NMJL), so that people all over the country could play by the same rules and guidelines.  Mahjong is a game that combines skill, strategy and a bit of luck, but it is not just a game, it is a social experience that brings people together and is just lots of fun!
